Our client located in Northern Florida is hiring a Director of Safety. This is a direct hire opportunity that requires up to 50% travel to job sites.

Director of Safety Role:
As the Director of Safety, you will be the key driver behind our commitment to workplace safety, regulatory compliance, and risk management.
You’ll lead a dedicated safety team, engage regularly with field personnel, and work closely with leadership to foster a culture where safety is a shared responsibility and priority.
Act as the primary safety leader across job sites and branch locations in Florida, Alabama, and Tennessee, ensuring consistent application of safety programs and standards.
Manage and mentor a team of safety professionals to meet operational goals and compliance requirements.
Build strong relationships with employees at all levels to encourage safe behaviors and reinforce a positive safety culture.
Conduct comprehensive site inspections, hazard assessments, and safety meetings to proactively identify and mitigate risks.
Analyze safety data and trends to develop actionable plans for improvement and sharing these insights with senior management.
Design and deliver targeted training programs for drivers, operators, supervisors, and management to ensure regulatory and company standards are met.
Collaborate closely with fleet management to maintain strict compliance with federal transportation regulations and company policies, including driver qualifications and vehicle inspections.
Oversee incident investigations, claims management (workers’ compensation, general liability, auto), and documentation in alignment with regulatory bodies.
Lead the creation and maintenance of safety documentation, manuals, and performance tracking tools.
Support new employee onboarding to establish consistent safety awareness from the start.
Set safety performance goals and leading initiatives to achieve measurable improvements.
Travel regularly (up to 50%) across operational areas to maintain a hands-on presence and strong relationships in the field.
Director of Safety Background Profile:
Bachelors degree in safety, engineering, construction management, or a related field preferred.
Minimum of 7 years experience managing safety programs and teams in construction, highway maintenance, or related industries. Multi-site is required.
Proven ability to lead, develop, and motivate a multi-person safety team across several locations.
Deep knowledge of workplace safety standards, hazard identification, equipment operation safety, and regulatory compliance.
Thorough understanding of federal transportation safety requirements, including driver qualifications, hours of service, vehicle inspections, and cargo securement.
Experience analyzing safety data, conducting root cause analyses, and implementing corrective actions.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage and educate diverse audiences.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and safety management software or dashboards.
Ability to prioritize, multitask, and manage time effectively in a fast-paced, multi-site environment.
Professional safety certifications such as CSP, CHST, or OSHA-authorized trainer preferred.
Spanish language skills are a plus.
Valid license, clean driving record, and the ability to pass required background and substance screenings.
Flexibility to travel frequently within the Southeast region, including occasional overnight stays.
