The Spiritual Care Manager will be responsible for coordinating and facilitating the pastoral/spiritual care services in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. This person will be an integral part of the provincial health care system. The Manager will be responsible for ensuring that spiritual services are available to patients, families and staff including physicians.

Duties will include:

  • Demonstrates an understanding and acceptance of Health PEI’s mission, vision, goals and objectives by incorporating them in the delivery of spiritual care services.
  • Leads the development and planning for the delivery of spiritual care services for QEH.
  • Directs, oversees and evaluates the provision of spiritual care within the hospital.
  • Develops, implements, monitors, evaluates and ensures compliance with Spiritual Care standards, policies and procedures.
  • Clinically assesses, plans, implements and evaluates patient’s spiritual and religious needs as well as their families/partners in care’s spiritual care and counselling.
  • Makes patient rounds within the hospital and ambulatory areas.
  • Supports department staff and denominational chaplains, volunteers and community pastoral care providers to provide effective spiritual care.
  • Facilitates interactions between community pastoral care providers and hospital staff as required.
  • Collaborates and coordinates with QEH Telecommunications and Community Religious Leaders to ensure timely access to after-hours spiritual care in crisis.
  • Contact’s patient’s community spiritual/religious provider to inform them of requests for their spiritual/pastoral support.
  • Provides support and assistance to patients and staff to deal with life crisis by being available to them during high stress through formal and informal interventions (i.e. CISM/defusing/debriefing).
  • Provides grief and trauma support to patients and staff through interventions such as therapeutic, spiritual care, grief counselling and memorial services as required.
  • Coordinates with Community Spiritual Leaders to provide spiritual care to adverse, educational and cultural clients.
  • Maintains and strengthens the link between the Hospital and the Religious organizations throughout the province.
  • Manages fiscal and human health resources assigned to the department in order to ensure the quality and safety of service delivery.
  • Reviews, oversees and monitors the budget assigned to the Spiritual Care Department.
  • Prepares quarterly budget variance reports.
  • Advises supervisor of significant variance and prepares a plan to address same.
  • Coordinates and evaluates workload and service delivery by assigning appropriate duties to staff.
  • Reviews and applies the collective agreements as they pertain to the department
  • Reviews and approves personnel forms (HR Action forms, leaves of absence, WCB and overtime).
  • Collaborates with Human Resources in labour management situations.
  • Reviews and approves staff pay and leave requests in Peoplesoft system.
  • Remain current in knowledge of the provision of care for the Spiritual Care Department.
  • Prepares briefing notes on provided services as directed.
  • Submits quarterly reports to the Director on the activities of the Spiritual Care Department.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • The successful applicant must be a certified Spiritual Care Clinician by the Canadian Association of Pastoral Education or have a minimum of two advanced units of Clinical Pastoral Education and be in the process of becoming certified.
  • Formal theological education at the Masters level from a recognized school of theology is required.
  • The successful candidate must be ordained or endorsed or approved by an ecclesiastical authority.
  • The successful candidate must accept the ecumenical/interfaith nature of public hospital spiritual care.
  • Considerable experience in hospital spiritual care is required (at least 3 years)
  • Experience in administration and/or management is preferred.
  • The successful applicant must have a good previous work and attendance record.

Other Qualifications:

  • Preference will be given to a candidate trained, or is in the process of being trained, to teach Clinical Pastoral Education in accordance with the accreditation standards of the Canadian Association of Spiritual Care.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have evidence of a commitment to continual professional development.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently within professional expertise and apply sound clinical decision making.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team environment.

Salary Range: $36.37- $45.45 per hour (Level 18- Excluded)

Bi-Weekly Hours: 75.0 Hours Bi-Weekly / Days / Monday to Friday / Occasional Evenings or Weekends Based on Operations
